About

Fall 2023: We expect that the Claremont Concert Choir (MUS 173) and the Claremont Treble Singers (MUS 176) will rehearse in person, without masks required.

MUS 176 Claremont Treble Singers will meet Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-6:45 p.m.  The course is 0.5 CR (1 CR at HMC).

MUS 173 Claremont Concert Choir will meet Mondays and Wednesday, 7:00-8:30 p.m.  The course is 0.5 CR (1 CR at HMC).

For those with classes or labs ending at 5:30 or 7:00 p.m., please still consider auditioning to sing in a choir with a slightly late arrival; discuss with the director.

The choirs are open to all students by audition. The singers represent the four constituent colleges and a wide variety of academic majors, including music, as well as the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and other arts.  Many singers in the choirs take voice lessons, which are available through the Scripps College Department of Music.

The Claremont Concert Choir

The Claremont Concert Choir of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges was created in the fall of 1963 with the combination of the Scripps College Women’s Glee Club and the CMC Stag Chorus. The choir is usually a 50-voice mixed ensemble of students and other community members. The Claremont Concert Choir specializes in major choral and orchestral works from the Baroque era to the 20th century, as well as a cappella motets and part songs from the renaissance to the present. Regular rehearsals are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Academic credit is available for the class (MUS 173, 0.5 CR, or 1 CR at HMC) which may be repeated.  The Claremont Concert Choir has performed with the Atlanta Symphony, the Santa Monica Symphony, the Utah Symphony, the Orange County Symphony, the Xiamen (China) Philharmonic, and the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, as well as its regular series with the Claremont Concert Orchestra.

The Claremont Treble Singers

The Claremont Treble Singers of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges was officially offered for the first time in Spring 2018.  The 25-30 choristers of the Claremont Treble Singers specialize in music for soprano and alto voices from the middle ages to the present, both accompanied and a cappella. Claremont Treble Singers can be taken and repeated for credit (MUS 176, 0.5 CR, or 1 CR at HMC).

The choirs are members of the Pacific Southwest Intercollegiate Choral Association.
