In these unprecedented times, the Joint Music Program classes will be online in Fall 2020 and Spring 2021. There will be one choir offering – MUS 173 Claremont Concert Choir-Pandemic Version. An audition will not be required for the online semesters. Just submit the PERM request and the director will grant it.
Spring 2021 the Claremont Concert Choir-Pandemic Version will be an online experience focusing on individual choral singing skills and creating some “virtual choir” performances through recording and group analysis of our singing. The class will meet synchronously on Zoom about once per week (M or W 5:45-7:00 pm Pacific time), with asynchronous individual work as well. Repertoire will be determined once the class is formed. The course is 0.5 CR (1 CR at HMC).
Fall 2020 the Claremont Concert Choir-Pandemic Version will be an online experience exploring choral repertoire and individual choral singing skills. The study of repertoire will be from the renaissance to the present through listening to works, learning about history and repertoire structure, and singing excerpts. The skills portion will include vocal and sight singing work. We will plan to create a “virtual choir” performance of a piece or two during the semester. The class will meet synchronously on Zoom at least once per week (MW 6:00-7:15 pm Pacific time), with asynchronous individual work as well. The course is still 0.5 CR (1 CR at HMC).
Participants in this class who have never successfully auditioned for the Joint Music Program choirs before will need to have a successful audition to sing in a choir when the choral program returns to an in-person model.
