Founded in 1977, the Claremont Concert Orchestra is an integral part of the Joint Music Program of Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Pitzer, and Scripps Colleges. The orchestra’s mission is to provide students with the opportunity to perform symphonic works from the 18th century through the present within a liberal arts environment.
The Claremont Concert Orchestra serves students of varying degrees of musical expertise, complemented by community members and professional musicians from the Los Angeles area. There are many student members of the orchestra who are majoring in music. Many others, however, major in other areas––such as the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and other arts––and are passionate about continuing to develop their musical skills through symphonic playing.
